On behalf of the Movemento Ecoloxista da Limia y Sociedade Galega de Historia Natural, on the effects of intensive livestock farming in the Limia Valley

The petitioner denounces the effects of intensive livestock farming in the Limia valley and the As Conchas reservoir. The petitioner deplores in particular the increase in the intensive farming of chickens and pigs, the poor management of farm waste, the lack of a binding code of good farming practices and the deterioration of surface and groundwater due to an increase in the concentration of nitrates and eutrophication. He calls for the installation of new farms to be stopped and the management of existing farms to be subjected to controls: they should adopt an environmentally sustainable management of livestock waste so as to comply with the European legislation in force in this regard.
