On Germany’s environmental bonus for electric vehicles

The petitioner objects to the environmental bonus granted by Germany's Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA). Smaller manufacturers, he alleges, receive no support from the BAFA, because their customer-friendly pricing leaves no room for a discount, although their vehicles are eligible for the purchase incentive. He claims that the BAFA is having an indirect influence on the price calculations of car manufacturers. If the BAFA genuinely wants to promote electric vehicles in an independent and impartial manner, manufacturers’ financial might should have no bearing on the level of the State contribution. The petitioner claims that the EU is currently considering whether the environmental bonus is consistent with EU law and asks for his petition to be taken into account.
