Debate
Weil ich nicht sicher bin, ob bei der Dunstdecke uns die Sonne noch Vitamin D spendet.

Petition is addressed to: European Union/ European Parliament
The European Union should clearly oppose the use, research, and testing of Solar Radiation Management (SRM) and other large-scale geoengineering technologies. Such measures should be prevented across the EU, and existing international initiatives to regulate these technologies should be strengthened.
THEREFORE WE DEMAND:
1. An EU-wide ban on field experiments, applications, and research projects aimed at Solar Radiation Management or other large-scale geoengineering methods.
2. A clear stance by the European Parliament and the European Commission against the use of geoengineering in the international arena.
3. Unified EU regulations preventing individual Member States or private actors from conducting SRM experiments.
4. Targeted investments in sustainable climate protection strategies, including emissions reduction, ecological restoration, nature-based solutions, and renewable energy.
5. Transparency and public involvement in all political decisions regarding climate-related technologies and interventions in environmental and weather systems.
Geoengineering – especially Solar Radiation Management – involves technological interventions in the Earth system intended to influence the climate. Numerous scientists and environmental organisations point out that these technologies pose significant risks and have not yet been sufficiently researched or regulated. Potential dangers include:
Unpredictable climate effects that may have lasting impacts on natural weather patterns and ecosystems.
Risks to biodiversity and agriculture, such as altered precipitation patterns or impacts on soil quality and plant growth.
Geopolitical conflicts if individual states or private actors undertake unilateral interventions in the global climate system.
Distraction from real climate protection measures, such as emissions reduction, nature conservation, energy transition, and sustainable climate adaptation.
Health risks for humans and animals.
These risks affect not only individual Member States – they concern the entire European Union and the global climate.
