On behalf of the ‘Coordinadora Estatal Stop Ganadería Industrial’, on the alleged failure by Spain to comply with EU legislation on proliferation of intensive livestock farming

The petitioner reports that planning for intensive livestock farms has risen exponentially in Spain over the last few years with dire consequences for socioeconomic development and the environment, health and quality of life in the rural areas where they are located. She says the buffer zones between individual livestock farms and between farms and city centres are clearly insufficient. In her opinion, differences in individual Member States’ legislation encourage the growth of intensive livestock farms in countries where the rules are not so strict, as is the case in Spain.
