The petitioner complains about the discrimination, labour exploitation and job insecurity suffered now and in the past by the vast majority of intra-EU migrant workers hired by temporary employment agencies in the south of the Netherlands; he calls on the European Parliament and the Commission to take action that will put an end to this and any related violation of EU law or of rights enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights. The petitioner states that the majority of those workers were recruited via specific websites, social media notices or the EURES portal. Very often, agencies make false promises and fail to paint the full picture regarding the working conditions, leading the workers to sign pre-contracts in Spain which are completely different to the final contracts that they sign once they have moved to the Netherlands. As a result of their poor working conditions, in the last year alone, the Employment and Social Security Bureau at the Spanish Labour Ministry in The Hague has received some 500 complaints from intra-EU migrant workers.
