The petitioner, in a very detailed letter, complains about a worrying increase in the number of situations where social network users, especially women and children, suffer threats, bullying and slander. The petitioner points out that the authorities of the Member States of the European Union do not offer effective responses to these situations, and that digital portals and platforms do not act with due diligence in the management of alleged criminal content. The petitioner also complains about the breach, by the management companies of social media networks, of the regulatory framework related to the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the protection of said rights on the internet, and the specific regulations for consumers within the EU. He also reports the proliferation of anonymous profiles with a bullying tone and the lack of effective and accessible protocols and procedures for users to put an end to such attacks. Social networks lack monitoring in defence of users and conflict resolution mechanisms. The petitioner asks the European Parliament to take a clear stand on the breach of European Union law and, if necessary, the development of legislative measures to remedy the situation. He also suggests the establishment of a corresponding working party within the European Parliament..
