On behalf of Ecologists in Action, on the omission of strategic environmental assessment in the Trebujena general urban development plan (Cádiz)

The petitioner expresses concern at an amendment to the general urban development plan approved on 8 May 2019 by the Trebujena municipal authorities in breach of Directive 2001/42/EC and Directive 92/43/EEC, seriously endangering the Doñana SAC-SPA and the Guadalquivir Estuary SAC. This amendment effectively gives the go-ahead for the construction of 300 housing units under the land-use plan, extending building permits to leverage the necessary investments for access and infrastructural works, estate development and provision of a golf course. It also provides for diversification, allowing business activity and private installations. The projected development (which is included in the plan under Section 16 - Tourism) is adjacent to two Natura 2000 special areas of conservation - the Guadalquivir Estuary (Bajo Guadalquivir ES6150019) and Doñana (ES0000024).
