We are impressed with the tens of thousands of you who are taking a stand for democracy. Fundamental rights, free media and independent courts are indispensable, since power without limits and control destroys democracy.

Also in other European countries movements are gaining support, which seek confrontation rather than reconciliation, which promote simplistic measures in the eye of complex problems and which treat political opponents as their enemies.

This way of thinking endangers social peace and societal progress. For this reason, we need to stand together throughout Europe in order to defend the fundamentals of democracy.
