On the recognition of EU citizenship rights for British nationals after Brexit

The petitioner asks the European Union to do everything possible to uphold the rights and interests of those British citizens who want to retain EU citizenship. The petitioner takes the view that Union citizenship rights should, as far as possible, be extended to UK nationals who so request when they are under the jurisdiction of one of the 27 Member States and, reciprocally, to EU nationals in the United Kingdom. The petitioner claims that the European Union should act, unilaterally if necessary, to preserve the rights of those seeking to register as ‘associate EU citizens’ after Brexit.
