Regarding the right of UK citizens to sign the EU citizenship ECI after Brexit

The petition regards the pending European Citizen’s Initiative entitled “Permanent European Union Citizenship”, which is currently open for signatures. The petitioner is concerned that following Brexit, many UK nationals will no longer be able to sign the ECI and will be excluded from an initiative, which could potentially have direct impacts on their rights as EU nationals. According to the petitioner, the European Commission has already confirmed that the signatures of UK citizens who may have supported this ECI prior to the UK withdrawal from the EU will no longer count after the withdrawal. The petitioner calls upon the European Parliament to consider these matters and to act to uphold EU citizenship and its associated rights for all EU citizens equally.
