On the need for equal recognition of football referees in the European Union

The petitioner complains that regulations concerning football referees and their roles differ from one EU Member State to another and that in some States no regulations are in place. The petitioner points out that the status of European workers must be equal, on the understanding that if a worker performs a particular job in one EU country, they must have equal status and recognition in any other EU country, and must not be subject to any form of discrimination. The petitioner requests that a study be carried out to investigate the legal framework in relation to football referees at European level and to check whether the rights concerning the free movement of workers, as enshrined in EU law, are applied consistently.
