On the imprisonment of a Polish politician 

The petitioner explains that a Polish politician has been held in custody in Poland for more than two years under suspicion of espionage, but without a conviction. The petitioner takes the view that the detainee has been deprived of his right to defend his reputation and to access and view evidence, and his attendance at court hearings relating to the extension of his period in custody has been restricted. In May 2018, the court of appeal granted an extension of the politician’s detention until November 2018. The petitioner takes the view that the case is politically motivated and calls on the EU institutions to react to the alleged violations of the values enshrined in the Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights.
