The petitioner alleges that Italy infringes European legislation on credit agreements for consumers, in particular, Directive 2008/48/EC. He maintains that Italian law requires banking intermediaries to carefully assess creditworthiness before granting loans, and that there is no penalty whatsoever for those who infringe this obligation. This situation means that people applying for a mortgage or a loan lack the necessary protection, while being exposed to situations of over-indebtedness. He claims that he himself has suffered financial damage amounting to thousands of euros. He has written to the Bank of Italy and the European Central Bank on this matter, but has not received any reply. He therefore asks the European Parliament to ensure that Italy complies with the relevant European legislation.
