On environmental offences in the Mar Menor lagoon, Murcia

The petitioner is complaining about the lack of implementation of the rules on environmental protection, surveillance and inspection in connection with the Mar Menor lagoon in Murcia, and condemns the worrying increase in environmental offences. The petitioner is calling for the withdrawal of the environmental remit from the regional government in Murcia for its dereliction of duty, which has seen the Mar Menor become a dead sea. The petitioner is calling on the Commission to set up an environmental station on an island in the Mar Menor to monitor the status and recovery of the lagoon. The petitioner is calling for disciplinary proceedings to be opened for failure to comply with EU law and condemns the agricultural overexploitation and excessive urbanisation.
