On excessive Bpost administrative costs in the customs clearance procedure

The petitioner claims that the local distributor of parcels in Belgium (Bpost) is abusing its monopoly in the customs clearance procedure for parcels coming from outside the European Union. He adds that upon arrival in Belgium customs duties may be due on the shipment and that Bpost charges excessive administrative fees for customs clearance. He claims that this is against EU rules, under which Member States cannot impose charges related to customs clearance higher than the actual costs incurred.. The petitioner calls on the European Parliament to take action and prevent parcel distributors such as Bpost from charging unreasonable administrative costs.
