On behalf of the Association of European Animal Welfare Organisations, on the mistreatment of Spanish greyhounds (galgos) in Spain 

According to the petitioner, in Spain Spanish greyhounds (galgos) are bred for hunting and kept in appalling conditions. At the end of the hunting season, the dogs are either abandoned or brutally killed. The petitioner calls on the European Parliament to bring about the adoption of uniform laws on the protection and welfare of animals, in particular to combat the mistreatment of galgos. Pressure should also be exerted on the Spanish Government to take action and revise its stance on this issue.
