The petitioner seeks assistance from the EU to halt the construction of the Highways England non-compliant new road (Huntingdon Southern Bypass ('new A14') from Brampton to Swavesey, including the Brampton Interchange), and ensure that the compliant BCG alternative is assessed, as the current project risks to generate serious air pollution problems. The petitioner highlights that infrastructure plans should comply with UN/EU/UK environmental policies and laws and the principles of sustainable development in order to protect people, wildlife and the environment. BCG asks the Parliament to remind the UK that the assessment of the BCG multi-modal scheme should include an updated Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) conducted in accordance with EU guidelines. The petitioner also suggests concrete measures such as the provision of mandatory health protection zones.
