Petition richtet sich an: Petitionsausschuss des Europäischen Parlaments

The petitioner makes some comments on the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament of the Council on type-approval requirements for motor vehicles and their trailers, and systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles, as regards their general safety and the protection of vehicle occupants and vulnerable road users (COM (2018) 286 - 2018/0145/COD). The proposal sets specific requirements regarding advanced safety standards that passenger vehicles should have in order to be allowed on the internal market. The petitioner believes that, while the proposal contains legitimate requirements to increase road safety, the data collection entailed by some vehicle features would undermine citizens’ right to privacy. In addition, the petitioner states that the different safety devices mentioned in the proposal may eventually lead to drivers not taking responsibility to drive safely. The petitioner consequently calls on the European Parliament to amend the proposal, taking into consideration those comments and more specifically, to renounce to data collection devices.
