On behalf of Eumans and others, on empowering the EU to address global challenges, from COVID-19 to social, economic and climate crisis 

The petitioners call the EP to implement adequate mechanisms to resume its work as soon as possible, and to organize a space for the elaboration of all possible instruments, as no state can face Covid-19 alone and the EU needs to take leadership establishing a plan with concrete actions to this global challenge. The petitioners are of the view that the current EU institutional system has shown its weakness and it needs, with the EP at the forefront, to relaunch the initiative of democratic reform of the EU, in order to make it fit for purpose. The petitioners believe that this reform should consist of five pillars. Those entail a systemic EU response to the Covid-19 crisis, with attention to the emergency measures and respect for the rule of law; the enhancement of the EU healthcare and civic protection instruments and competences to respond to outbreaks; the implementation of all economic, financial and monetary policy measures allowing to unlock resources and EU measures to support citizens with the consequences of the pandemic; the concept for the first stages of the Conference on the Future of Europe reshaped into a public online assembly; a global mechanism to prevent and face epidemics and pandemics.
