The petitioner, who works as a farmer in Poland, says that he was discriminated against by the Polish judiciary on the grounds of his German nationality in proceedings relating to infringements of animal welfare legislation. According to the petitioner, businesses owned by foreign EU citizens are expropriated under the pretext of animal protection. The petitioner calls for action by the European Parliament to look into the rule of law in Poland and discrimination against EU citizens in the Polish courts. The petitioner also states that animal welfare rules make it difficult to operate an agricultural holding. He therefore calls for solutions to be found to better reconcile animal welfare and agriculture.
