The petitioner would like to ensure that, after Brexit, single parents or main carers of a child are able to move from the UK or travel freely in Europe without the consent of the other parent and without a court order enabling them to do so. The petitioner points out that parents who are not the main carers of a child can force the other parent to stay in the UK even in the absence of financial means to support themselves as a consequence of Brexit (i.e. relocation of employer, loss of entitlement to work or social security etc.). The petitioner points out that litigation is expensive and lengthy and that not all parents will be able to go to family courts and obtain permission to leave the UK, which would put vulnerable families in very delicate situations and would be against the best interests of concerned children.
