The petitioner refers to a wastewater treatment project in Slovenia known as “Ljubljana Wastewater Collection and Treatment” (Brod-Ježice) and alleges that it is in violation of Directive 2011/92/EU on the assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment, as well as of Regulation 1367/2006 on the application of the provisions of the Aarhus Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-Making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters to Community Institutions and Bodies. The petition details the project specifications and the associated environmental risks perceived by the petitioners, including the allegation that the project would run on a tract of land that is not geologically stable. The petitioners claim that the authorisation processes for the project were irregular and that no replies were received from the authorities in charge despite environmental concerns known to both the local authorities and the European Commission.
