On the need for an independent investigation into the protection of persons reporting on breaches of Union law (personal case)

The petitioner alleges that while working as a labour inspector in Ireland he witnessed numerous failures by employers to comply with labour legislation. The petitioner conveyed his concerns about these irregularities to his superiors, but they took no action. The petitioner therefore decided to initiate a formal procedure for provision of information on breaches in accordance with Irish law. The petitioner states that from the moment he launched that procedure until his retirement he was subject to disciplinary measures and intimidation by his superiors. The aim of his petition is to protest against the situation he was subjected to as an employee of the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC), where he considers that his superiors acted as judge and party in the process.
