The petitioner is of the opinion that the current rules concerning anti-pollution and allergy masks used in many countries during the winter heating season and the pollen season should be revised. Currently, they are covered by Regulation (EU) 2016/425 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2016 and classified as category III personal protective equipment. Many costly and time-consuming tests must be carried out before a certificate of compliance is issued and the slightest anomalies result in the costs of the tests being passed onto importers. The petitioner thinks that the current classification is appropriate for protective masks used at work but not for masks intended for short-term and personal use, such as anti-pollution or allergy masks. Therefore, he believes that the standards governing these masks should be changed. As a result, the market will become more competitive and the products themselves will be more available to other users, for example to pregnant women and children.
