On the possibility for the EU citizens residing in the UK to participate in elections to the European Parliament after Brexit

The petitioner is Danish citizen residing in the United Kingdom. The petitioner wishes to run in the European Parliamentary Elections of May 2019. According to the petitioner the possibility to participate in the next elections is blocked as a result of Brexit. She believes that this hinders her rights as an EU citizen as she alleges that there is no guarantee that the UK will exit the European Union by March 2019. The petitioner calls on the EU to protect her right to stand for election as a Danish citizen, currently residing in the EU. She suggests that the EU could give some seats that the UK will vacate in the European Parliament to EU citizens residing in the UK.
