Dies ist eine Online-Petition of the European Parliament.
The petitioner asserts that freedom of movement, the most popular of the EU achievements, should no longer be taken for granted, in view of Brexit and the extreme nationalist attacks on a Europe without internal borders. In his view, these attacks are beginning to undermine respect for European rights and freedoms, in particular cross-border rights to residence, social security and the recognition of professional qualifications. The petitioner also condemns a Fortress Europe of walls and barbed wire and calls for a European space without borders that welcomes asylum seekers and refugees. Among other things, the petitioner calls on the European Parliament to set up a special committee to review all aspects of European rights and citizenship, and in particular the freedom of movement, the right to vote and stand in local and European elections, and promote an informed debate about migration.
