On the effects of LED streetlights on insects

The petitioner claims that LED streetlights of certain parameters, which are currently being installed across cities, attract and cause massive death of insects. He cites research showing that the mortality of insects is 90% higher compared to lamps used in the 60s. He argues that the extinction of biologically important insects is irreversible and has an important impact on ecosystems. He calls for EU funding for cities in order to change street lighting to lamps which are insect-friendly and for EU law that would establish a certification regime for insect-friendly streetlights.
