On international calls within the European Union

The petitioner points out that, since 15 May 2019, the European Union has capped charges for international telephone calls and text messages within the EU, which has been a great service to consumers. However, the relevant legislation has not eliminated the ‘roam like at home’ paradox, so it is still much more convenient to use a SIM card from another EU country in your own country in order to be able to call any EU number at your own national rate. The petitioner therefore calls for arrangements to be made for international calls within the EU similar to those already in place for roaming in the EU, requiring them to be treated in the same way as national calls.
