On behalf of the Balearic Young Farmers’ Association, on the extension of the special protection areas for birds (SPAs) on the Balearic Islands, Spain

The petitioner calls for the new SPAs and their 2017 extensions to be reviewed. Theareas of land used for arable and livestock farming and for forestry and hunting purposes are being turned into SPAs to the severe detriment of their owners.. According to the petitioner, SPA status places enormous constraints on the development of farming activity and SPAs are out of line with proven environmental interests and not backed up by data from ornithologists.
