Petition addressed to: European Parliament, Latvian Ministry of Agriculture

I propose amendments to the Animal Protection Law, establishing that the slaughter of animals may only be carried out if the animal has reached an age that corresponds at least to physiological maturity, the slaughter was performed with prior stunning, the animal was provided with sufficient freedom of movement in accordance with animal welfare principles and the recommendations of animal protection organisations (for example, the animal was not confined and kept in a cage for its entire life), the animal was fed without growth hormone additives, had access to natural light and the outdoors, and was not subjected to surgical procedures causing suffering and discomfort (for example, for aesthetic or production efficiency purposes without anaesthesia).

Reason

In the course of agricultural activity, many animals are killed and used for the needs of society without taking into account that they are capable of feeling pain, thinking, and living independently of humans.

Thank you so much for your support, Martins Roberts Saulevičs, Rīga
