Verzoekschrift gericht aan: Irish TDs, European MEPs, members of European parliaments

We urge our elected representatives in Ireland and across the EU to respond decisively to the June 9 interception of the MV Madleen in international waters, which saw MEP Rima Hassan and humanitarian workers detained while delivering aid to Gaza. This incident challenges international law, parliamentary immunity, and humanitarian access. The EU must act to defend its democratic institutions and protect those providing humanitarian support.

Reden

As an Irish and European citizen, I believe deeply in the principles of international law, democratic accountability, and humanitarian responsibility. The detention of Rima Hassan, a sitting Member of the European Parliament, while attempting to deliver humanitarian aid, crosses a dangerous line. If elected representatives can be intercepted in international waters without consequence, it sets a precedent that undermines EU sovereignty.

Ireland has a proud tradition of defending international law and standing up for humanitarian values. I’m calling on our government—and our European institutions—to act not just for one parliamentarian, but for the integrity of our democratic systems and the people they’re meant to serve.

Hartelijk dank voor jullie steun, Roy Phillips, Maynooth
