Petition addressed to: President of the UN General Assembly and member states
Russia at present is blocking export of vitally needed grain from Ukraine to Africa, Middle East and other regions threatening widespread famine. The General Assembly should demand that Russia immediately lift its blockade to reduce the threat of possibly the worst famine since WWII. 141 member states of the General Assembly have condemned Russia's unprovoked war on Ukraine that has resulted in over 1,200 confirmed civilian deaths and damage to infrastructure perhaps over $1 trillion with over 4 million refugees. This extreme suffering of the people of Ukraine could be overwhelmed by the famine that lies ahead. The world community has a responsibility to protect the vulnerable people of the world and the General Assembly should demand that Russia immediately lift its blockade to Ukraine's vitally needed food shipments for which no alternative supply is available.
If global famine can be prevented by a vote of the UN General Assembly that would be one of the most important votes in the history of the UN. Large increases in food prices have led to widespread social unrest in impacted countries well before famine would set in. It is extremely important that food shipments from Ukraine resume as soon as possible.
