Verzoekschrift gericht aan: General Secretary NATO, General Public

Your Excellency,
During the press conference following the extraordinary meeting of Foreign Ministers on March 4, 2022, you stated that Russia undertakes the worst military invasion of a free, independent, and democratic country in decades, and that the situation is likely to get worse. You stated that Russia will pay a very high price for the war that Putin has chosen to wage, and that you call on him to stop now. You expressed the NATO´s commitment to defending every inch of its territory, but you said clearly that NATO is not part of this conflict, and is not seeking war with Russia to avoid escalation of the conflict. You reminded us that war is dangerous and we need to seek diplomatic solution to prevent the entire continent being pulled into a war.
It has been clear from the press conference and from your answers to the subsequent questions from the media that NATO does not have a solution that would effectively increase chances of the Ukrainian forces to stop the Russian military forces. NATO has helped to train and equip the Ukrainian forces prior to the invasion, but it is not prepared to do anything now that would make a difference on the battleground and seeks to maintain appearance of impartiality in this conflict. It is my strong opinion that this approach is misguided and instead of leading to your stated goal of deescalation, it provides an opportunity for Russia to complete their mission to anex Ukraine with the NATO standing by doing little even when the occupying forces violate international law, commit war crimes, and decimate innocent civilians.
Your inactivity increases the danger of Russia expanding their destructive military activity into other non-NATO countries, such as Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, and potentially Finland, Sweden, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and others. It is time for the political leadership of NATO to step aside and hand over command of the NATO forces to the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Rob Bauer and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Tod D. Wolters, to start implementing a strong military response to the Russian aggression with a stated goal to free the territories which Russia currently occupies (Ukraining territories including Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk; Transnistria territory in Moldova; Abkhazia and South Ossetia territories in Georgia).
I call for your resignation as Secretary General of NATO. Under your leadership since 2014, your appeasement strategy and weak response to Russian military expansion have led to gradual significant deterioration of the security situation in the world and especially on its Eastern European flank. Without an external help, the Ukrainian forces will not withstand the Russian invasion, and the aggressor will be emboldend to continue their aggressive military expansion. You have decided to sacrifice a peaceful democratic country at the border of NATO in a hope that Russia will be satisfied and will end their military campaign. That hope is futile, as the history has taught us. We can hope for the best, but plan for the worst, and you have no plan for that.
NATO needs courageous leadership with military experience who will seriously evaluate options which will stop the Russian invasion, including assembling a peacekeeping mission send to Ukraine, establishment of a no-fly zone, armament of the Ukrainian forces with weapons including fighter jets, rocket launchers, air defense and other assets Ukraine urgently requests. In consequence of their aggressive military actions, Russia is not an ally of NATO, and needs to be treated as an adversary. The current response relies heavily on sanctions which will hurt Russia, but will not prevent them from continuing in their military expansion. We need a strong and vigorous response of NATO which can take inspiration from the courageous, committed, and effective leadership employed by the Ukrainian political representation, most prominently by its President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Mr. Stoltenberg, whatever you do in response to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia is not working and is not sufficient to prevent further casualties. You stand by while the flames of the conflict grow stronger. Your appeasement politics towards Russia represent a clear and present danger to the future of Europe and I call on you to step aside and make room for experienced professionals to take over and start working on a solution for all of us before it is too late.
