Billionaire Elon Musk, the owner of X, supported the presidential election of Donald Trump with hundreds of millions of dollars. Trump torpedoed afterwards the U.S. climate agenda, seizes oil in a neo-colonial manner, undermines democracy and even threatens the EU by considering an invasion of Greenland.

On X itself, Musk compares the EU to the Nazis for taking lawful action against shady practices on his platform under the Digital Services Act (DSA).

Beyond the widespread presence of hardcore pornography, documented cases reveal that Musk’s chatbot Grok has generated sexually suggestive or degrading imagery that crosses legal boundaries, including child-protection laws, and contributes to the dehumanization of women and minors.

Yet countless European, national, regional, and local public institutions — as well as elected officials — continue to use X as a primary communication channel. By doing so, they generate traffic, indirectly contribute to advertising revenue, and legitimize a platform that actively undermines Europe’s democratic information space.

This raises a fundamental question: why do public authorities continue to rely on a platform that contradicts the values they are meant to uphold? Have they lost their minds?

Call on them now to stop using X as a platform for communication and public interaction and, ideally, to shut down their accounts! The current environment on X promotes hate, disinformation, sexism and racism, and it is incompatible with the values of the European Union and its member states.
