A petition to repeal EU Council Directive 2017/2455.
We, the citizens of Europe do not agree with the Act that entered into force on 1.1.2021 under the VAT Directive (EU Council Directive 2017/2455), which abolishes the exemption from import duties up to the value of goods in the amount of EUR 22 in postal traffic. This means that all the goods purchased online and delivered from third countries or non-EU countries will be subjected to import duties (import VAT) after January 2021
Currently, this directive is suspended until 1.7.2021 due to the COVID19. After it enters into force you will no longer be able to buy anything outside EU without paying VAT on goods and the cost of customs processing of the package, ranging from 5 € to 20 € or more, depending on the company through which the goods are sent.
We believe that this violates our fundamental right to purchase small goods outside the European Union.
In times of looming recession and constant layoffs, this European Parliament bureaucracy directive will be an additional financial burden on an average European and is a direct support of the large corporations. Therefore, we demand for the EU Council Directive 2017/2455 to be repealed immediately and that European citizens be allowed to purchase goods up to the value of € 22 without import duties
