If you want to reduce the power of Facebook, Google, and all the other companies that live on clickbait and ad dollars, which is at the root of this horrendous trend of fake news and misinformation spreading like wildfire, then you need to fight for laws that dictate that at least x% of revenue must come from subscription fees. In other words, force Facebook at Co to adopt a paid service / subscription business model, not a free but paid by ads model. That would be the game changer, everything else is just cosmetics.

algorithm

Data mining algorithms are (as every algorithm) intellectual property. It is core of informatics business and it is major capital of the firm. It is not possible to enforce private society to publish their capital and make it available freely to its competitors.

Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, etc. All have horrid business practices. Exposing their algorithms will only show us what we already know: irresponsible data mining, targeted advertising, selling data...

Big Tech are private companies acting according to their policies and within the national laws. This petition is manipulation in itself.

Reading from email the description behind this petition, I consider it entirely is useless. I don't see the reason why algorithms need to be revealed in first place. To create your own social media better than Facebook? What stops you to do it now? To stop manipulation and information filtering? How about improving education within the country first? This petition has no positive means for humanity and is a waste of time and resources. Stop wasting your and other times.

Destroying individual rights in the name of public interest is the MO of every faschist. Facebook does not owe you anything, you are not mindless sheep that are influenced by scary algorithms. Be responsible, make up your own mind, and protect freedom. There are many alternatives to Facebook that are open-source. Alternatively, we still have enough freedom so you can start your own platform.

I am against!

I really LIKE! a lot that I get the content that fits my interest. SAVES ME SOOO MUCH TIME! time is our greatest value:). we should treasure it and make most of it. this data protection laws should be urgently get LESS restrictive. I don't have anything to hide!!!
