The French nuclear fuel cycle has been assessed as one of the lowest impact energy systems in the world, emitting only 5.2g of CO2 per kWh and reducing hazardous waste by 17% while extending the lifespan of fuel supply, reducing mining and enrichment impacts. Technological innovations in reprocessing of fuel, and in seawater extraction, make Uranium one of the most sustainable fuel sources on the planet.

Atomic Humanism - the case for Nuclear Power

Fast nuclear reactors

I would like consideration to be given to fast nuclear power instead of the currently common thermal nuclear power. Fast nuclear is about 100 times better! If reluctance to consider nuclear power is caused by worries about the waste generated, please consider that the waste from thermal reactors can be used as fuel for fast reactors. In addition, fast reactors can use depleted uranium and thorium as fuel.

Ich bin voll und ganz überzeugt, dass Kernenergie für den Klimaschutz und für die Nachaltigkeit die wichtigste Energiequelle überhaupt ist. Deshalb unterstütze ich diese Petition mit ganzem Herzen.

The equation is simple: in order to limit energy needs, the demography has to level off. This is possible if the global energy production increases everywhere at the level of developed countries. Only a massive deployment of nuclear energy can do it in a carbon-free way. E.U. might show the right way to save our planet by encouraging its deployment (but this is probably too simple for the E.U. that may priorize business as usual, with fossile fuels supported directly or indirectly by its financial institutions).

Endlagerung

Die Endlagerung hochradioaktiver Stoffe ist keineswegs "unlösbar", sondern es gibt konkrete Konzepte, die z.B. in Finnland (Onlalo) bereits umgesetzt werden. Das Problem ist fast ausschließlich als politisch anzusehen, was die Endlagerkommission zu unglaublich zeitaufwändigem Taktieren zwingt.
