Petition addressed to: Les Roches Management and Academic Administration
Dear Members of Les Roches Marbella Management and Student Services,
We, the undersigned students of the Master’s programs at Les Roches Marbella, would like to respectfully share our concerns regarding the recent suspension of our fellow student, Miguel Torres, following an incident involving a member of the security personnel at the student residences.
First, we would like to make clear that we understand the responsibility Les Roches has to protect the safety and wellbeing of its community. We do not support violence or aggressive behaviour, regardless of the circumstances, and we understand that the School had to respond to an incident of this nature.
At the same time, we believe there is relevant context surrounding this particular situation that deserves to be considered before a final decision is maintained.
Our Concern
Prior to this incident, several students had already experienced difficult interactions with the security guard involved. Concerns had been raised among students regarding the way some situations were handled, including confrontational interactions, difficulties accessing the residences, and occasions in which students felt that situations could have been managed differently.
For this reason, we believe it would be helpful to consider the recent incident not only through what happened at the moment of the confrontation, but also through the circumstances that led to it.
We are not in a position to determine who was right or wrong, nor is that the purpose of this letter. We simply believe that the experiences and testimonies of other students may provide useful context for the School when evaluating what happened and determining the most appropriate response.
Miguel’s Contribution to Our Master’s Community
We would also like to share our experience of Miguel as a member of our Master’s community.
Throughout the program, Miguel has consistently demonstrated a cooperative and supportive attitude toward his classmates. His previous professional experience has often added value to our academic discussions, particularly when he has been able to provide practical examples or help explain concepts that were not completely clear to other students.
Beyond his academic contribution, Miguel has regularly made himself available to support classmates when academic challenges or difficulties arise. From our experience working and studying alongside him, he has shown a genuine willingness to collaborate, share his knowledge, and contribute positively to the group.
We mention this not to excuse or minimize the seriousness of the recent incident, but because we believe that a student’s overall conduct and contribution to the community can provide relevant context when considering an appropriate and proportionate response.
A Request for Reconsideration
We understand that Les Roches’ own Standards of Excellence provide mechanisms for students to raise concerns and appeal disciplinary decisions. We see this letter as a constructive contribution to that process and as an opportunity for the student community to share information that may be relevant to the School’s assessment.
More broadly, the principles that guide university coexistence in Spain encourage dialogue, mutual respect, fair consideration of the people involved, and constructive approaches to resolving conflicts. We believe these principles are aligned with the values that Les Roches promotes within its community.
With this in mind, we respectfully ask the School to reconsider the circumstances surrounding the suspension and, where possible, take into account:
- Miguel’s account of what occurred.
- Testimonies from students who witnessed the incident.
- Any available objective evidence, including security footage.
- Previous concerns or experiences reported by students regarding interactions with the security guard involved.
- The circumstances that led to the confrontation.
- Miguel’s overall conduct and positive contribution to the Master’s community.
- Whether, after considering this broader context, the current disciplinary measure remains the most appropriate response.
We are not asking the School to disregard what happened, nor are we attempting to justify inappropriate behaviour.
Our request is simply that the complete context be considered.
We believe that hearing the different perspectives involved could help the School reach a decision that protects both the standards of Les Roches and the wellbeing of its students.
Most importantly, we would like this letter to be understood as a constructive expression of concern from students who care about the community in which we study and live.
We appreciate the responsibility carried by the School when dealing with situations of this nature, and we trust that our concerns will be received in the same respectful spirit in which they are being presented.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our perspective.
Sincerely,
Students of the Master’s Programs
Les Roches Marbella

Miguel is a great student and, more importantly, an amazing person. I have known him for almost a year, and throughout that time I have consistently seen him be there for people who are in need and treat others with kindness and respect.
From what I understand about the situation, I do not believe that the circumstances were fully investigated or considered from every perspective. I respectfully believe that Miguel deserves the opportunity to have his side heard and to have the situation reviewed fairly and thoroughly.
I also understand that Miguel has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and is simply asking for a chance to graduate with his class. Having known him personally, I believe he deserves that opportunity and the chance to continue his education and move forward from this situation.
I sincerely hope that his character, his contributions as a student, and the person I have come to know over the past year will be taken into consideration when making this decision.
