Lee Ye-won (20), who was a strong candidate for the championship, was shaken by an unexpected penalty stroke.
Lee Ye-won received a two-stroke penalty in the first round of the Korea Women's Professional Golf (KLPGA) Tour Hanwha Classic (total prize money of 1.7 billion won) held at the Jade Palace Golf Club (par 72) in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do on the 24th.
Here's the situation. On the 3rd hole (par 4), Lee Ye-won kept her fairway in the middle and succeeded in her two-on. The remaining putting distance to the hole is about 7.7m. She didn't make a birdie putt, but Lee Ye-won, who putt her in the hole, finished the par putt right away. 
The problem was the par putt. After attempting a birdie putt, the caddy approached Lee Ye-won to cover her with an umbrella. When she missed her putt, the caddy covered Lee Ye-won with an umbrella and headed to the hall together. As Lee Ye-won was about to finish her 18cm par putt, the caddy next to her should have removed her umbrella. However, she continued to cover the umbrella, and Lee Ye-won made her par putt in that state.
Under Rule 10.2b(5) of Golf, a player must not make a stroke while receiving physical assistance, the removal of distractions, and protection from other factors.
This means that you should not put your caddy, other people, or any object in order to eliminate factors that interfere with your concentration, such as sunlight, rain, or wind. However, it does not prohibit athletes from directly wearing functional raincoats or carrying umbrellas.
If he breaks the rules, he gets a penalty of two strokes. Therefore, Lee Ye-won violated the rules because her caddy covered her with an umbrella when she made a par putt stroke. 
At the High1 Resort Open in 2016, Kim Ye-jin received a two-stroke penalty for not removing the umbrella her father, who was her caddy, covered while putting, and in 2021, Park Gyeol also received a penalty stroke at the Jeju Samdasoo Masters for an umbrella that her caddy covered to avoid rain. .
After the 3rd hole, Lee Ye-won made a series of birdies on the 4th and 5th holes and seemed to be going smoothly. However, after the penalty stroke, she seemed to shake her shot slightly, and eventually finished with a 1-over-par 73. 
She is not in danger of missing the cut with a tie for 45th, but she could have started the major tournament with a good under-par score if it had not been for a two-stroke penalty. It is a regrettable start for Lee Ye-won.
