The fans were not happy even though they made it to the final.
Manchester United advanced to the final with a 4-2 victory in the shootout after drawing 3-3 with Coventry City in the semi-final of the 2023-24 English FA Cup at Wembley Stadium in London, England, at 11:30 p.m. on the 21st (Korea time).
Erik ten Hag brought up the 4-2-3-1 formation. Rasmus Hoylun took charge of the front line. The second line consisted of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Alejandro Garnacho. The midfield was led by Kobe Mainu and Scott McTominay. The defense consisted of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Casemiro, and Diogo. The goal was defended by Andre Onana.
It got off to a good start. Manchester United had a goal feast with McTominay's opening goal in the 23rd minute, Maguire's extra goal in the extra time of the first half and Bruno's goal in the 13th minute of the second half. The objective difference in power was clear.
However, it has been shocking since then. Coventry brought the game to square one with consecutive goals from Elise Sims in the 26th minute, Callum O'Hare in the 34th minute, and Hodge Wright in the extra time of the second half.
The game went into extra time and a penalty shootout. Manchester United faced a crisis when their No. 1 kicker Casemiro was missed, but Coventry's No. 3 and No. 4 kickers were missed.
In the end, United advanced to the final with a tough win over Coventry.
Fans of course exploded. Fans who visited the club's official Instagram account were furious, saying, "Ten Hag is out right away," "I can't even congratulate him," "It was a terrible performance," "We won, but we're not happy at all," and "No matter what the result is, Ten Hag will be fired."
According to 90 MIN of England, Ten Hag said after the match, "I can't say that the mentality of the team was not good because I showed it in today's match. However, it was not enough at the end of the match. We need to improve in terms of communication."
He continued, "I had a chance to win the penalty shootout. I have a lot of mixed feelings. I'm satisfied that I made it to the final. But we have to win. We have to give everything to win."
Manchester Derby was held for two consecutive seasons in the FA Cup final. Manchester United, led by Ten Hag, and Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola, will face off at the end of next month.
