Regarding pollution in the Sierra Minera de Cartagena-La Unión (Murcia)

The petitioner indicates that industrial activity, principally mining, has radically affected human health over time, as well as the landscape and environment of the Sierra de Cartagena-La Unión. He maintains that no action has been taken to prevent or reduce heavy metal contamination of the Mar Menor by runoff from mining activities or to decontaminate the area. He asks the European Parliament to call on those responsible in the Autonomous Community of Murcia to resolve the problem of heavy metal contamination in the Sierra Minera and the consequences of this in terms of human health and environmental pollution, especially in the Mar Menor.
