On introducing a Marketplace Facilitator law similar to the US law

The petitioner calls on the EU to adopt a law similar to the one that was recently adopted in the US, called the Marketplace Facilitator law. This law provides for the Marketplaces (Amazon, EBay, Walmart etc.) to collect and remit sales tax on behalf of sellers, on each transaction made on their platform. The petitioner claims that such a law would be beneficial not only for sellers, as they would cut down their costs on tax advisors, but also for the state, because it would eliminate the possibility of sales tax avoidance by non-EU sellers, especially from China, thus putting an end to unfair competition.
