Det rapporteres, at flere hundrede træer, i visse tilfælde meget gamle og beskyttede træer, blev fældet i januar 2019 i naturbeskyttelsesområdet "Die Burg" i Marl. Andrageren tilskriver dette en administrativ fejl og går ud fra, at de ansvarlige myndigheder i Nordrhein-Westfalen og på europæisk plan ikke er blevet informeret derom.
