Feyenoord Arne Slot, who is considered to replace Jurgen Klopp, who is leaving Liverpool after eight years, is already supported by Liverpool members.
European soccer reporter Fabrizio Romano said on his social networking service (SNS) on the 27th (Korea Standard Time), "Arn Slot will replace Klopp as Liverpool coach after this season," adding, "A compensation agreement has been reached between Feyenoord and Liverpool." "All details related to Slot have been finalized," he said, adding the phrase "Here we go" used when the transfer is confirmed.
He also said, "Liverpool plans to pay compensation of 13 million to 15 million euros (about 19.1 billion to 22.1 billion won). As a result, Slot will be the most expensive Dutch coach ever." He added, "The details will be announced this weekend. In the meantime, it will be completed through paperwork."
Slot, from the Netherlands, has led the prestigious Feyenoord team in the country's league since 2021. Slot led Feyenoord to third place in the league in his first season and led the league to victory last season. In recognition of his achievements, he recently emerged as the hottest manager of the year, winning the Dutch Coach of the Year award in 2022 and 2023.
Slots prefer strong pressure on aggressive and attractive soccer and quick transition of offense and defense. They are connected to Bayern Munich, Germany's strongest soccer player, and Liverpool, which became the strongest in Europe under Klopp.
Slot has also been linked to Tottenham's managerial role last year. Tottenham, who broke up with Antonio Conte at the time, went through two terms as an acting manager and began searching for a formal manager. Several managers were sought after, one of whom was Slot.
Initially, Coach Slot was also interested in Tottenham's managerial position and was highly likely to be appointed, but it turned out that Coach Slot was using Tottenham to renew his contract with Feyenoord.
"My next step is to go abroad. The best stage in the world is the Premier League. See you in London." Slot, who has expressed his interest in becoming Tottenham manager, signed a one-year contract extension with Feyenoord to lead the team until the summer of 2026.
"We were aware that Slot had a 5 million pound buyout, but this provision will not take effect until the next summer when the transfer window opens," Sky Sports said. "Tottenham believed that Slot had a better contract with Feyenoord. It seemed that they signed the contract using Tottenham's interest," he said, stressing that Slot had an advantage in the renewal negotiations.
Since then, Slot, who leads Feyenoord to second place in the league this season, has moved closer to Liverpool than to Munich. Chances are high that Klopp will take over Liverpool.
Klopp, a world-class leader who has led Liverpool since 2015, is leaving his beloved club at the end of the 2023-24 season. Liverpool announced on its official website in January that "Jurgen Klopp will lead the 2023-2024 season and end eight and a half years in Liverpool."
"I understand that many people will be shocked to hear this for the first time, but obviously, at least I can and should explain," Klopp told the club. "I love everything about this club, the city, and the supporters. I love the team, I love the staff, I love everything, but I'm still confident that it's a decision I have to make."
He explained that he ran out of energy when he signed a contract with Liverpool until 2026. "I already informed the club of my decision in November last year," he said, adding that it was not a sudden decision
As Slot and Liverpool got closer, Klopp also expressed his thoughts on the rumor that Slot will be appointed.
"What I like about my successor is that he really wants the job," Klopp said of the slot at a pre-match press conference ahead of the away game against West Ham in the 35th round of the 2023-2024 Premier League. "I'm looking forward to it because I'm desperate."
