Petition is addressed to: the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy - Mr Josep Borrell
As citizens of the European Union, we feel a profound moral responsibility to call on the EU to reflect our collective conscience and take a principled stance on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. We call on EU leadership to express - clearly and unequivocally - the moral outrage shared by many across Europe in response to this devastating conflict where innocent civilians are incurring unimaginable pain and suffering - where hunger is being weaponized—used not as a consequence of war, but as a method of war.
We demand that a firm message be conveyed to the State of Israel: that the European Union, acting on behalf of its citizens, cannot and will not remain a passive observer to the continued violence and human suffering in Gaza.
We unequivocally condemn all loss of innocent life. The Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of 1,195 Israeli and foreign civilians, were abhorrent and inexcusable. Likewise, we unequivocally condemn the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza—by land and by air—which has resulted in the deaths of over 50,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are civilians. This scale of destruction demands immediate international attention and action.
Yet, we must acknowledge the reality: there appears to be no genuine will to end this war.
We therefore call on the European Union to take decisive action, including the imposition of targeted sanctions against the State of Israel and a ban on imports originating from illegal settlements, in accordance with international law.
Now is the time for the EU to act with integrity and uphold the values it claims to represent.
Reason
This petition represents the collective moral outcry from all EU citizens who refuse to remain silent in the face of mass civilian suffering and the erosion of international humanitarian law. The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in catastrophic loss of life, displacement, and the collapse of basic human services. It is not enough to express concern—we must demand accountability and action.
As European citizens, we are calling on the EU to uphold its core values: human dignity, respect for international law, and the protection of civilians. This petition is a demand for the EU to use its political and economic influence to:
- Condemn all violations of international humanitarian law—regardless of the perpetrator.
- Ensure that European economic and diplomatic relationships do not support or enable unlawful acts.
- Impose sanctions and restrict trade with entities that profit from or contribute to illegal occupation and violence - in other words, sale of weapons and components used to enable acts of war.
We citizens of the EU cannot claim to stand for peace, justice, and human rights while remaining passive. Our voice, through this petition, is a reminder to EU institutions that their legitimacy relies on representing the will and conscience of the people.
By signing and supporting this petition, we affirm that silence is not neutrality—it is complicity. The time to act is now.

Why people sign
How can we call ourselves a civilised developed community if we stand by and allow the systematic destruction of a people and do nothing.
