This week is a celebration for the Ontario gambling industry, marking the first anniversary of the launch of the private iGaming market. GeoCompley, which provides geolocation services to the sector for the event, released a report in its first year. Ontario's market was first launched on April 4, 2022, and was the first for Canada because no other state allows unlimited third-party operators to operate legally. In its report, GeoComply noted that sportsbooks and iGaming platforms generate 19.9 million login attempts worldwide from more than 744,000 users in their first calendar year. This resulted in C$35 billion in processed bets. Of the more than 54,000 attempts, more than 54,000 came from users in the United States who attempted to access Ontario operators about 305,000 times in the first 12 months.

In addition, the province has made more than 3.3 million location fraud attempts on sports betting, meaning that people or programs outside the province have attempted to access the market. Ontario is also celebrating the event, and on April 4, 2023, the region released its first-year report on the market, which released some interesting data. It also found that about 85% of participants who have gambled online in the region in the past three months have gambled on regulated sites.

Basketball was the most bet sport in the first year with 28%, followed by soccer with 15%, soccer with 14%, and hockey with 9%.
