NGO'en Birdlife Malta har angiveligt indledt en straffesag mod enhver, der havde fået udstedt en særlig tilladelse til at jage vagtler og tog på jagt i foråret 2020. NGO'en hævder, at disse jagtaktiviteter strider imod maltesisk lov og europæiske forordninger, mens andrageren mener, at Birdlife Maltas tiltag er ubegrundede, krænkende og chikanerende. Andrageren opfordrer Europa-Parlamentet og Kommissionen til at beskytte jægerne i Malta.
