The Calgary Police Department announced this week that it has found and charged a man suspected of robbing several casinos in the city. The culprit is 62-year-old Richard James Buckmeyer, who will face five counts of robbery and three counts of deliberately disguised possession while currently restricted or prohibited from possessing a firearm.

According to a press release from the Calgary Police Department, the man was linked to several other casino heists in the city, including a break-in at Cash Casino on Blackfoot Trail S.E. 4040 in September 2022. Police also linked the gunman to a robbery at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino at 1150035 S.E. last month.

Mr Buckmeyer was caught on February 15, 2023, after police claimed he had a firearm and demanded cash from a casino employee after receiving a signal that an unidentified man had entered the casino. The man left the scene with undisclosed cash and no injuries were reported to casino employees.

After the signal, a police helicopter located the suspect's vehicle parked outside the Deerfoot City Mall, where officers claimed the man changed his attire before leaving the parking lot. Police said they saw the man heading to the Huntington Hills area, and officers and a unit of dogs carried out a traffic stop in the 500 block of McKnight Boulevard N.E.

Mr Buckmeyer was arrested at 12:35 a.m., according to a CPS report. He is said to have been linked to robberies at Cash Casino in September last year and Dearfoot Inn & Casino last month. He was charged with five counts of robbery and three counts of deliberately disguised possession of a firearm, which was restricted or prohibited.

The criminal is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, February 23, 2023 for trial. Finally, the Calgary Police Department is urging anyone who can provide additional information about the incident to contact them via CPS non-emergency telephone (403-266-1234). Anonymous reports are also available through the Crime Stopper website.

Meanwhile, Alberta's more recent news has covered the possible relocation of Camrose Casino Resort. Last fall, the Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis Commission rejected a proposal from Capital City Casino to move the Gaming Amenities at 3201 48th Street in Camrose to the 5,600 sq m complex at 420 Parsons Road SW in Edmonton. The people of Edmonton in this area also objected.

But recently, Barhead County deputies declared they supported the relocation of gaming facilities. Members have written to the AGLC asking it to reconsider its decision and allow the transfer. Meanwhile, rural municipalities in Alberta are also in favor of this request because they can increase the number of sites for the Camrose region and Alberta.
