Petition addressed to: All

To make IVC filter manufacturers responsible for informing and looking after all patients using their IVC filters.

Reason

The Problem. An IVC (inferior vena cava) filter is a device that is implanted in a patient’s body to prevent blood clots from passing through and ending up in the body’s vital organs like the lungs. These filters are implanted in patients who are at risk of pulmonary embolism which can be fatal.

These filters can only remain in the body for a certain period of time. The FDA recommends removing IVC filters within 29-54 days after the hazards of blood formation dissipate. But in most patients, the filters remain in their bodies for extended periods of time. When that happens, the filter may break apart inside a patient’s body and cause serious complications, even death.

The Solution. Since some manufacturers don’t provide comprehensive administration, maintenance, and removal instructions, they are responsible for making sure that all IVC filters are removed within the given time frame, especially when there’s no longer a reason for the filters to remain. Health institutions and IVC filter manufacturers must work together to better track and monitor each filter implanted and taken out. The filters must also be reassessed for their quality to ensure that they don’t easily break while still inside a patient’s body.

People who have suffered from the complications of IVC filters must get the help they deserve from https://www.drugwatcher.org/ivc-filter-lawsuit/ in filing an IVC filter lawsuit.
