The petitioners want the ban on feeding animal meal to pigs and poultry to be maintained throughout the EU. They argue that feeding animal meal to cattle in recent decades has caused considerable harm to humans and animals. Even now, bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) still occurs despite the ban on feeding. Animal meal is not a species-appropriate feed for animals.
